4 images The timber memorial plaque lists the names of 23 men of Wolverhampton who were killed in the First World War, including William Johnson Barnett of Oakham.The Memorial was originally dedicated on 24 Oct 1920 and was erected in the New Hampton Road Wesleyan Church.Later, a large brass plaque was also erected listing the 172 men who served.The Church was demolished in 1980 and both plaques were "missing" for a number of years.The Cranmer Methodist Church was built on the same site in 1991.After viewing the Wolverhampton War Memorials website, two parishioners of the old Church searched for the Memorials and found them safe in a shed on site.The plaques were re-dedicated on Remembrance Sunday in 2005, and are now kept within the Methodist Church.
