The Garden of Remembrance is opposite the village green and consists of two memorials. The larger one with the cross was set up by the third Earl of Gainsborough and his wife Mary who lived at Exton Hall in memory of their son Robert Noel and other members of the wider family who died in the First World War. Among them is the first VC Officer winner, Lieutenant Maurice Dease, a Royal Fusilier. On the wall surrounding the garden is a memorial to the men of Exton and Whitwell who fell in the war. There is also a war memorial in St Peter and St Paul's Church.
