About

There are 36 men commemorated on the War Memorial which stands in the churchyard. Inside the church, the Roll of Honour has two Wrights. A Wright is on the War Memorial. But J Wright is not. We wonder whether it might be the same James Wright we have from Lyndon since the Regimental details match. The Roll of Honour also has a H Barnett immediately below a Harold Barnett Barfield. Both are from the South Staffordshire Regiment. We believe the H Barnett is a mistake due to confusion that Harold has Barnett (his mother's maiden name) as his middle name.

Do you know something about Ketton and Geeston War Memorial (St Mary the Virgin Church) that hasn't been mentioned?

Rutland and The Battle of the Somme

More than 90 Rutland soldiers died in the Battle of the Somme which lasted from 1 July 1916 until the middle of November. Today they lie in cemeteries across the old battlefield in northern France or are remembered among the 72,000 names on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme. By using our interactive map, you can find out what happened to them.
