BURROWS Thomas

Known information

Thomas Burrows was born at Ketton on 12 March 1891, the son of Thomas Burrows Snr and his wife of Redmile Lane in the village. He worked as a farm labourer before enlisting with the Royal Field Artillery on 16 May 1916. He went out to France on 15 November 1916 serving with D Battery 84th Brigade and died the following year on the Somme front on 28 April. Thomas is buried at Albuera Cemetery, grave South F.23, and is remembered on Ketton's war memorial.

Rutland and The Battle of the Somme

More than 90 Rutland soldiers died in the Battle of the Somme which lasted from 1 July 1916 until the middle of November.
