DOLBY Arthur Atterton

Known information

Private Arthur Atterton Dolby was born at Barrowden on 14 June 1888, the son of Harry and Eliza Dolby. By the time war broke out he was living at The Terrace, South Luffenham, with his wife Ann Emma Dolby and their two children. Arthur had served for four years as a Territorial in the 5th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment and on 10 November 1914 he joined the regiment's 7th Battalion. Within a few weeks he was taken ill with pneumonia and died at Cambridge Hospital, Aldershot, on 28 December 1914. Arthur is buried at Aldershot Military Cemetery, grave AF.1783, and is remembered on South Luffenham's war memorial.
